Becoming Aware: Your body; Part 2

Becoming aware of your body is a very large step that, let’s face it, most of us girls don’t want to do. Knowing the things that you put into your body, what should come from your body, and how to present your body are essential in order to know that you are perfect the way you are.

Food. The culprit that the media world has labeled a necessity and an evil. We can’t live without it, yet it makes us girls “fat” “unpresentable” and “unworthy.” Of course, this is a complete LIE. Food is not an evil.. At least healthy food isn’t. Food gives us fuel and stamina. Without it we would waste away to nothing; which is exactly what they want us to do. Skinny is “sexy,” and being “sexy” is the only thing that makes you worth anything. According to the media we must eat their diet, take their diet pills, or just not eat at all. Sadly, many girls have given in to this distorted way of living. However, the thing that most girls don’t think of, is the most obvious healthy way of living: EATING HEALTHY. Yes, this is something that many people think of doing and try to do, but somehow they always slink back to their old ways. Knowing what type of food goes into your body, and what it does for your body is life changing. People just don’t know what certain enzymes do for their brain. These things reflect in your appearance. If you EAT healthy, you’ll look healthy. Not necessarily stick-skinny, but good and healthy. I once heard a great quote saying, “Being healthy and fit is so much more important than being skinny.” Which I view as a fact, not an opinion. You are what you eat. If you eat garbage, you’re considered garbage, and if you eat nothing… Well what does that say about you?

Sweat, and pain: things that we find absolutely horrifying as girls! These things come from exercise. This is another thing that the media says we need to do. Sorry to break it to you, but the media is right on this one. Our generation has such a lack of discipline; we don’t know how to make ourselves do the right thing for our bodies, even though we know what to do most of the time. For instance, we know we need to exercise, but we can’t even get off of our butts to do it! It’s hard: it will take much sweat and you will be very sore afterwards, but you will feel oh so accomplished.

You see yourself in a certain way: the way you present your body is how you show others the way you see yourself. Many people think that dressing “confidently” is showing off your stuff. I have absolutely no clue where people got this idea: that, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it!” I can see where people are coming from but this idea contradicts itself too much. By showing off your curves to men, you’re practically asking them to stare at you inappropriately: which equals no respect in a male’s mind. In a boy’s mind, it equals, “Ooo, she’s easy!” In a gentleman’s mind, it means, “She has no idea about the trouble she’s getting into.” You can still be modest while being cute, and you can feel just as beautiful.

All in all, your body is important. For confidence, you need to FEEL confident! Seems like a no-brainer, right? So many girls have fallen into this trap, of how we’ve been told we need to look. Like Jordan from Messy Mondays says, “Be Liberated!: From Hollywood.”
